Story of Magersari

Within the compound of the nDalem, i.e. on the right and left side of the main building and the pendopo stand smaller buildings, occupied by the inheritors of the abdi (=servants) nDalem also called magersari (those given the permit to stay there by the owners of the nDalem). All the magersari citizens are associated in two RT (Rukun Tetangga= neighbourhood association).
Magersari is the term for society members living in a place owned by the Kraton or their inheritors. As in the case of the Magersari who live within the compound of nDalem which is now occupied by the sons-daughters of the late GKR Anom, the sister of
Sultan HB X, the magersari do not own that place. They are allowed to stay there and participate in maintaining the place. In this nDalem there are ten families occupying the place who have lived there for decades, going back several generations.
All the citizens of the nDalem Kaneman participate in maintaining and conserving the
nDalem Kaneman starting from the keeping of cleanliness of the area until directly or indirectly involved in the way the magersari citizens prepare the typically Kraton cooking.
